How this is calculated

Method

The calculator inverts a revenue goal into a session volume:

sessions = revenue goal / (CVR × AOV)

Conversion rate (CVR) is a rate: 2% is 0.02 in the formula. The input asks for a percentage (type 2 for 2%, not 0.02). Average order value (AOV) is revenue per conversion, in euros.

The result is rounded up: you cannot plan for 0.3 of a session. If CVR or AOV is zero, the division is undefined — the tool refuses the calculation rather than showing infinity.

Default example: €100,000 / (2% × €80) = 62,500 sessions.

This is planning algebra, not experiment statistics. The identity revenue = sessions × CVR × AOV (revenue per visitor = CVR × AOV) is the basic frame for online experiments — Kohavi, Tang and Xu, Trustworthy Online Controlled Experiments, Cambridge University Press, 2020, chapter 1. Inverting that identity for a revenue goal does not invent a new model; it asks “how much traffic do I need if this CVR and this AOV hold”.

Limits

  • The CVR you type is an observed or target rate, not a guarantee. 62,500 sessions at 2% / €80 yield €100,000 if that CVR and basket actually happen.
  • No seasonality, no channel mix, no ex-VAT vs inc-VAT, no bounce rate. This is an order of magnitude for sizing a traffic need, not a forecast.
  • A site-wide “average CVR” applied to a single landing page often overstates the result. Use the CVR of the page (or funnel) you actually mean.
